AL90 10 T.S. King Gustaf WasaKing 1523 - 1560Born 12 May 1496, National chancellor 1521-1523. Date of Death 23 September 1560. Gustav Vasa or Gustav Eriksson Vasa 1496-1560, became King of Sweden in 1523 and was the first monarch of the house of Vasa. He had become regent of Sweden in 1521 after leading the rebellion against the sitting monarch of the Kalmar Union. He also introduced Protestantism in Sweden. Vasaloppet is a cross-country ski race held in Dalecarlia, Sweden, annually on the first Sunday of March. It is the oldest, the longest, and the biggest cross-country ski race in the world. In the 80th race held on March 7, 2004 some 15,500 skiers competed in the main event, which is held over a distance of 90 kilometres between the village of Sälen and town of Mora. A total of more than 40,000 participated in one of the seven different races held during the first week of March. The race was started in 1922 being inspired by the run that the future King Gustav Vasa had made in 1520.All the figures are made from white metal and are available as unpainted kit, castings all with painting instructions and colour photo, they can also be supplied fully hand painted in matt.
