2025 Christmas set - Eugene de Beauharnais Viceroy of Italy and his grenadiers

This years Christmas set depicts the Viceroy of Italy, Eugene de Beauharnais (1781-1824), with a set of Italian grenadiers.

de Beuharnais was stepson to Emperor Napoleon and commanded the Army of Italy during the Napoleonic Wars. He started his military carrier in the French Revolutionary Army as orderly to General Lazard Hoche. In 1797 he joined the French 1st Hussar Regiment and consequently served as aide-de-camp to his stepfather during the Italian campaign.

He was promoted to the rank och brigade general in 1804 and created Arch-Chancellor of State and prince of France in 1805. In June, the same year, he was appointed Viceroy of Italy and came to spend the following years administering the Kingdom of Italy.

In 1814, after the fall of the Kingdom of Italy, he renounced his political activities and spent the remaining part of his life in Munich as Duke of Leuchtenberg.
